In plain words
To be poor in spirit is to know our need of God. Jesus says that such people belong to God's Kingdom; this is humble dependence, not a promise of effortless access to heaven.

The moment they recognized him
On the evening of the first Easter, two grieving disciples walked the road to Emmaus with a stranger. “When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished out of their sight” (Luke 24:30–31, RSV). “They said to each other, ‘Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the scriptures?’” (Luke 24:32, RSV).
